February 2007

Due to the leadership of Matt Walsh (IN '03), The Children of Willesden Lane has been adopted into to the sixth-grade curriculum at Brownsburg West Middle School and the seventh-grade curriculum at Brownsburg East Middle School. Both schools are in Brownsburg, Indiana, where Matt is an assistant principal.



January 2007

Due to the leadership of Karen Teff (MN '05), The Children of Willesden Lane has been adopted into the seventh-grade curriculum at Deer River High School.



November 2006

Jane Foley and Mona Golabek gave a featured presentation at the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) annual convention in Nashville. Click here for PDF of Convention Preview.



May 2006

Jane Foley and Mona Golabek (pictured, right) presented the project at the 2006 Milken Family Foundation National Education Conference in Washington, D.C.


Chris Mazzino (PA '03) (pictured, right) presented a Models of Quality breakout session on the application of project materials at the 2006 Milken Family Foundation National Education Conference in Washington, D.C.



March 2006

Mona Golabek and Jane Foley were general session presenters at the 3rd Annual Cultural Competency Summit in Indianapolis, sponsored by the Indiana Department of Education and the Fort Wayne Community Schools.

Jane Foley also presented The Children of Willesden Lane to university deans in Virginia at the Virginia Milken Educators Teacher of Promise Institute in Harrisonburg, Virginia.



January 2006

The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation donated $25,000 to Hold On To Your Music to gift books and study guides to urban schools in the Los Angeles area. In February 2006, Nancy Florez-Muro (CA '03) was awarded funds from the Gilbert Grant for a school-wide and community read at Lake Center Middle School in Santa Fe Springs, California.



November 2005

Canton, Ohio was the site of a citywide read that culminated with Mona performing for the community and 1,000 students.



September 2005

Jane Foley and Mona Golabek gave the keynote presentation at the 27th National Media Market in Las Vegas.


April 2005

Spring 2004

With the leadership of Alice Bertels (KS '00), Accelerated Reader added a Children of Willesden Lane test to its inventory.


With the leadership of Linda Fisher (CA '98), the San Diego County of Education added The Children of Willesden Lane to its library list.



March 2004

Jane Foley (IN '94) and Mona Golabek conducted a workshop for Idaho teachers in Boise, Idaho. Ms. Golabek performed at a community concert to culminate a city-wide read of The Children of Willesden Lane.

With the leadership of Sarah Powley (IN '93), Tippecanoe School Corporation in Lafayette, Indiana, added the materials to the curriculum at six middle schools for accelerated 7th grade English.
