National Standards for Technology in Teacher Preparation were prepared by an ISTE committee for NCATE.

  1. Foundations. The ISTE Foundation Standards reflect professional studies in education that provide fundamental concepts and skills for applying information technology in educational settings. All candidates seeking initial certification or endorsements in teacher preparation programs should have opportunities to meet the educational technology foundations standards.

    1. Basic Computer/Technology Operations and Concepts
    2. Personal and Professional Use of Technology
    3. Application of Technology in Instruction

The ISTE standards have been adopted by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education has recently released a report, Technology and the New Professional Teacher: Preparing for the 21st Century Classroom, which NCATE anticipates will "drive change in NCATE's accreditation standards and raise the bar for teacher candidate and faculty use of technology in schools of education."
