Dr. Jane Foley (IN '94) was once again a guest on the nationally syndicated radio show Bill Bennett's Morning in America on June 13, 2008. Dr. Foley, senior vice president of the Milken Educator Awards, spoke with the show's host, former U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. William J. Bennett, about Team HOPE (History Opens Eyes), a group of five Milken Educators working with Dr. Bennett to help advance the use of his books, America: The Last Best Hope, Volumes I and II, in schools across the country. To increase the nation's focus on high-quality teachers for every classroom in America, the
Milken Family Foundation held its
National Education Conference in conjunction with the
8th Annual National Teacher Advancement Program (TAP)™ Conference. The event took place March 28-30, 2008, at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles, California. Culminating the conference was the Milken Educator Awards Gala, where the newest class of 75 Milken Educators each received $25,000 cash prizes.

Mat McClenahan (CA '05), a high school teacher at HighTechHigh-Los Angeles, is the March guest blogger on PBS Teachers' Media Infusion blog. Hardy Elementary School Principal
Natalie Elder (TN '06), whose school participates in the Benwood Initiative in Chattanooga, Tennessee, discussed her experience with the comprehensive performance pay initiative at an event held by the Center for American Progress (CAP) on December 4, 2007, titled,
"Principal Incentives: A Promising Reform?". The panel focused on how best to structure principal pay initiatives to attract high-quality candidates to high-poverty schools.
