At the annual Milken Family Foundation National Education Conference, Award recipients and distinguished representatives from academia, government, business and the community examine significant issues in education and work together to propel action toward effective solutions.
Over the years, Conference events have focused on an urgent societal concern bearing on the education and well-being of children. Eminent presenters lend their expertise and insights, and have included Foundation Chairman Lowell Milken, Margaret Spellings, Ted Sanders, Jay Mathews, Arthur Levine and William Bennett, as well as governors and legislators who are leading education reform in their states.
The Conference also addresses the nationwide shortage of quality classroom teachers and TAP™: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement. As a comprehensive research-based strategy for restructuring the education profession, TAP™ focuses on all the elements—from entry and training to compensation and career development—crucial to effective teacher quality reform. By attracting, developing, motivating and retaining the best talent to education, TAP has proven results that its school-based model provides students with high-caliber teachers every year they are in school and improves the achievement of students and schools.
The Conference features an emotional and memorable Awards ceremony, during which Milken Educator Award recipients receive their unrestricted Awards of $25,000. This celebration of the nation's best educators has been attended by dignitaries from the United States Cabinet, United States Department of Education, members of Congress, and national leaders from a broad array of fields.
