Biographical Information:
Catherine Latham is deputy superintendent of the Lynn Public Schools in Lynn, for which she was previously a school support coordinator. As a former math teacher and department chair at Lynn English High School, Latham created the AP Calculus program and employed creative, cutting-edge methods to illustrate complex mathematical theories and further student learning. She helped develop the MCAS preparation program, establishing a mini-block schedule to provide time for extra instruction and contributing to a significant increase in student scores. Latham's many leadership roles demonstrate her commitment to public education, ranging from supervising a student tutoring program to beginning a club for future teachers. She worked to improve teacher quality as a PALMS (Partnerships Advancing the Learning of Mathematics and Science) Teacher Leader, and served as board member of several education associations and advisory bodies. As part of the Corps of Massachusetts Exemplary Educators, Latham informs the legislature and the public about the concerns of teachers and education.
