Biographical Information:

Business teacher Ed Noonan is the driving force behind the Economics/Business Academy at Dorchester High School in Dorchester, a program credited with motivating many at-risk students to complete school and pursue higher education. A former business executive, Mr. Noonan raised scholarship money, established a board of directors composed of prominent business leaders, and developed the Academy’s internship and professional mentoring programs. He developed the curriculum, building a team of math and humanities teachers who cooperate on curriculum integration, student support and program development. The Academy’s inclusion program makes it available to special needs students, and Mr. Noonan has worked with the school’s bilingual teachers to set up parallel programs for second-language learners. A surrogate father and role model to many of his students, Mr. Noonan helps shape school policy as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team.
