Biographical Information

As the new learning support teacher specialist at Queen Anne's County Board of Education in Centreville, Roberta Leaverton draws upon her years of experience as a special education teacher. A strong advocate of inclusive educational programs, Ms. Leaverton instituted Johns Hopkins University's Team Tech Learning System at her previous school. The program, designed to improve the participation and achievement of students with learning disabilities in the regular classroom, has since expanded from eight classrooms in one school to 30 classrooms in three schools. She has implemented a computerized remedial reading curriculum that builds students' ability to read for meaning. Ms. Leaverton frequently trains other teachers on instructing special-needs students and fostering successful inclusion.
