Biographical Information

Amy Braswell is an Arkansas State Graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, and a Masters in Educational Theory and Practice. During her 27-year career in education, she has served as an Elementary teacher, International Baccalaureate Coordinator, and District Magnet School Coordinator.  Mrs. Braswell received National Board Certification in 2001, and renewed her certification in 2010. She was awarded the Milken National Educator award in 2002 and was also named a district and regional Teacher of the Year. She serves on the Arkansas Exemplary Educators Network, which is an advisory group to the Arkansas Commissioner of Education. The network also assists school districts, educational organizations, and affiliates through speaking engagements. The network’s mission is “to improve student achievement through policy, practice and ambassadorship. We will judge the success of our efforts by their impact on students’ lives.”

Mrs.Braswell  has received extensive training in a variety of areas including International Baccalaureate, Curriculum Management, Arts Integration, Thematic Instruction, High Yield Strategies, Total Instructional Alignment, Balanced Literacy, and Step Up to Writing. Over the years, she has served as a Mentor to new teachers and has helped a number of teachers complete the National Board Certification process. She is currently helping to prepare new teachers who are a part of  the Arkansas Professional Pathway to Educator Licensure program, (APPEL), which is an alternate route to teacher licensure. This program is administered by the Arkansas Department of Education.

 In addition, Amy has been a presenter and conducted workshops for educators within her local community and across the state. Amy has written and been awarded a variety of grants throughout her years in education that have funded special projects and learning experiences for her students and positively impacted her community. Mrs. Braswell has been a leader in Arts in Education initiatives throughout her career, writing and receiving thousands of dollars in grants to implement the arts in her classroom and across the school buildings and districts in which she serves. She is currently working as a fourth grade teacher at Don Roberts Elementary School in Little Rock, Arkansas.

In 2005, Mrs. Braswell was appointed by Governor Mike Huckabee to serve on the Arkansas Commission for the Coordination of Educational Efforts in Arkansas. Currently, she is serving her third term as a Commissioner. She is also serving as the liaison between the Milken Education Foundation and Arkansas Milken Educators.
