Biographical Information:Sue Pandiani is a primary science specialist in the Weymouth Public Schools. Previously, Pandiani was a Title I mathematics coach in Weymouth. As a former third-grade teacher at Ella F. Hoxie Elementary School in Bourne, Pandiani and her students began corresponding with Boston-based author and artist Peter Reynolds, who was working on The North Star, a children's book that describes learning as a journey of self-discovery. The work became the basis for a yearlong curriculum developed by Pandiani and Reynolds. Calling her students the "North Star Navigators," she encouraged them to become poets, thinkers, philosophers and artists as they engaged in Internet-based reading and writing projects and created poems, stories and artworks that explored their individual lives, gifts and talents. Pandiani and Reynolds also published The North Star Classroom Resource Guide.Note: This biography was updated on 9/15/09
