Biographical Information

Suzanne Bishop Culbreth, a National Board Certified Teacher, is the 2013 Alabama Teacher of the Year, a 2011 Presidential Awardee for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching and Alabama’s Milken Educator for 1999. Currently, Suzanne works with the teachers at Mountain Brook Junior High School as their Staff Development Specialist. She has taught PreAP Geometry at Spain Park High School and Oak Mountain High School in suburban school districts of Birmingham, Alabama for the past 11 years. She is a thirty year veteran of the classroom, teaching biology and math in Alabama, Florida and Texas. At the time of her award, Suzanne was making technology an integral part of her anatomy and biochemistry classes at Opelika High School in Opelika, science teacher Suzanne Culbreth helps her students master complex scientific concepts while teaching them to use the tools of the future. As a co-supervisor in the Teachers Training Teachers in Technology program, Mrs. Culbreth helps other educators acquire the technology skills they need to introduce, reinforce and improve learning in innovative ways. As the school's technology resource person and troubleshooter, she coordinates the Opelika High Web page in partnership with a local business. Mrs. Culbreth designed and created the electronic templates used by the school system for its report cards.
