Biographical Information:
Karin Orbon is a teacher at the Shepherd Hill Regional High School in Dudley, where she teaches courses on investments, entrepreneurship, accounting and marketing, and also advises the Investment Club. Previously, Orbon was a business and computer teacher at North Brookfield Junior/Senior High School in North Brookfield, where her projects included an online course about stock market investing through the Virtual High School Project. She also offered college-level accounting courses to North Brookfield students, for which they received credit at a nearby college. She directed the Senior Focus Mentor Program, which paired students with professionals from the community, providing expanded educational and training opportunities while capitalizing on North Brookfield's small school atmosphere and close-knit community. Over the years, Orbon has served as an advisor for various classes, the yearbook and Students Against Destructive Decisions (S.A.D.D.), and has chaperoned students on numerous trips overseas with the Travel Club. After receiving the American Council for International Education's (ACIE) Excellence in Teaching Award, she participated in a fellowship teaching economics and American culture at Russian high schools and universities in the Chelyabinsk region. One year later, she created a Russian Culture program in the North Brookfield Public School System by bringing her host sister, Ms. Elena Deklenko, to the U.S. Recently Orbon was a teacher ambassador for "People to People" and chaperoned 40 students throughout Australia. In April 2008, she continued her love of travel by taking students to China and Hong Kong.
