Biographical Information:
Janice Smith teaches English and language arts at the Maria Weston Chapman Middle School in Weymouth. Previously, Smith taught English at Weymouth High School in South Weymouth. As a former eighth-grade English teacher at Weymouth Junior High School in South Weymouth, Smith taught herself HTML programming and created a Web site designed to showcase her students' work. "Ms. Smith's English Page" (http://home.earthlink.net/~jesmith/index.html) included sections containing background information on novels being studied in class, writing and grammar resources, literary links, biographies and autobiographies, and resources for parents and fellow English/language arts teachers. Her students applied technology for research, peer editing and making presentations. Smith shared her technological expertise with colleagues through a series of professional development workshops on Web-based instruction and learning.
