Biographical Information:
Elizabeth Garand teaches home economics at Northwest Middle School in Bristol. Teaching life skills by encouraging confidence and self-worth is the essence of home economics, according to Ms. Garand. Recognizing that many lack enthusiasm about the course material, she has enriched the subject of home economics by producing a video and writing a cookbook on low-cost, high-nutrition foods. A dedicated teacher for 23 years, she is committed to serving the community as well. Whether she is making a house call to repair a student's broken sewing machine, fighting for a day care center, or visiting the elderly, Ms. Garand's commitment and abilities are unfaltering.
