Biographical Information:
Principal Mary Meade-Montaque took Roosevelt School in Worcester-an old neighborhood school that was losing students to newer magnet schools-and transformed it into the city's first Multiple Intelligences School. The school now boasts a waiting list. To ensure the school's success, she has cultivated the support of community leaders, city and school officials, staff, parents and children. Previously she designed and implemented the curriculum at Jacob Hiatt Magnet School, Worcester's first school initiative dedicated to developmental education, and initiated one of the district's first completely inclusive special education programs addressing students' academic and behavioral needs. Mrs. Meade-Montaque is currently leading a district-wide effort to improve elementary-level science instruction through sustained professional development.
