Biographical Information

Dr. Richard DuFour is an educational consultant based in Moneta, Virginia. His achievements include writing a quarterly column for the Journal of Staff Development. He has also authored six books—including Professional Learning Communities at Work: Best Practices for Enhancing Student Achievement and Getting Started: Reculturing Schools to Become Professional Learning Communities—and is featured in five different video series. Previously, Dr. DuFour was principal of Adlai Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois, after which he became district superintendent. As a principal, Dr. DuFour emphasized the importance of evaluating both staff and student performances. His contributions as an instructional leader led to curriculum monitoring that provided each teacher with input on student achievement according to each course taken. He was highly regarded for his ability to enlist parent and community support, and for his talent to inspire greatness in the staff members and students at Stevenson High School.
