Biographical Information

When Robert Foor-Hogue began teaching science at South Carroll High School in Sykesville in 1980, there was little interest in science among students. Since then, enrollment in science has increased more than 600 percent. Much of Mr. Foor-Hogue's success as an educator comes from his motivational style and the interactive nature of his science classes. A wooded wetland and damaged trout stream on the school campus provide his students with living models for study, and a computer lab devoted exclusively to the science department (the only such computer lab in Maryland) allows students to integrate technology into their science research. Mr. Foor-Hogue has won numerous awards, and is a frequent presenter at professional conferences.
