Frost won the GRAMMY for five CDs he produced for the Milken Archive of American Jewish Music, all of which were released in 2004.
"It's certainly a great honor," said Frost at the 47th Annual GRAMMY Awards in Los Angeles on February 13. "I accept this along with the Milken Archive, and especially Lowell Milken for creating the Milken Archive, as well as Neil Levin and Paul Schwendener—and Naxos for distributing this wonderful and unique recording project."
The five Milken Archive recordings for which Frost won his GRAMMY are:
The Wyner CD was also nominated in the category of Best Small Ensemble Performance (with or without Conductor).
Milken Archive Founder Lowell Milken with David Frost and Milken Archive Artist & Repertoire Advisor Paul Schwendener | "The Milken Archive is extremely proud of David Frost's contributions as producer of several world premiere recordings of American Jewish music," said Milken Archive founder Lowell Milken. "It is, above all, quality music reflecting the human experience.
This is Frost's second GRAMMY. In 1999, he won in the category of Best Spoken Word Album For Children for Listen To The Storyteller, featuring Wynton Marsalis, Graham Greene and Kate Winslet.
His father, Thomas Frost, won a GRAMMY in 1986 in the same category (Classical Producer of the Year)
"I'm very proud to have won a GRAMMY, and I'm very proud that it's been because of an association with the Milken Archive," said Frost.
"Recording music that has never been recorded before is a very exciting thing, because you're bringing something to life that otherwise wouldn't exist, in a format that can be passed down to future generations. There's a special satisfaction in creating a document that has never been created before in any way.
"After all the years of work that have gone into the Archive, to be recognized like this is really a wonderful feeling."
Another Milken Archive CD, Joseph Achron [8.559408], was recently honored with an award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). The Deems Taylor Award in the category of Symphonic Liner Notes was presented to Milken Archive Artistic Director Dr. Neil W. Levin for his program notes on the Achron CD.
