Jenesis Duran (MS '17) told attendees at the Washington, D.C. Milken Scholars dinner that picking strawberries in her family's backyard taught her that success in life requires discipline and endurance. "My ancestors were the farmers and the cultivators," she said. "For every crop yield came an expectation that their descendants would one day rise above the toil of the land in order to accomplish the fantasy of the American dream. To fulfill this goal, my parents planted a seed of hope in me." Jenesis will attend Yale in the fall.
