Ryan Lafferty (WA '15) | Physics teacher, International School | Bellevue, WA
Date of Award: January 7, 2016
Ryan Lafferty has developed a problem-based curriculum for International School's AP Physics class in which students have built Roman arches, projectile instruments such as slingshots and catapults, and a single-string instrument called a Diddley bow. He is among a team working with the Bellevue School District, the University of Washington and the George Lucas Educational Foundation on a curriculum that he hopes to be implemented nationally. Known at the school as a natural leader, Ryan Lafferty guides struggling students in other classrooms and helps colleagues meet students’ needs. Lafferty's colleagues showed him their ultimate respect and affection when the entire staff dressed up as Lafferty for Halloween.
