Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a convenient way to read the latest content from your favorite Web sites, news organizations and blogs—including www.mff.org—all in one place.

Let's say there are 50 Web sites that you enjoy visiting, and each of those Web sites posts new, fresh content every day, such as articles, blog entries, photo series, videos, etc. To view this content daily would take you hours, since you would have to go to each site, one at a time, to view the content.

But if any of those Web sites offer an RSS feed, you can simply subscribe to the feeds and have the information come to you in one place.

That one place is an application known as an RSS feed reader or aggregator. The reader/aggregator simply collects the information from all of the RSS feeds you've subscribed to and lets you view and organize it in a way that makes sense to you. Many feed readers/aggregators are available for free. Some are Web-based, requiring you to simply create an account on their Web site, while others will ask you to download software to your computer.

Once you've chosen a feed reader/aggregator and set up an account, go to your favorite Web sites—including www.mff.org—and look for this symbol: That will indicate to you that an RSS feed is available from that site.

Typically, to subscribe to a site's RSS feed, all you need to do is click on the orange RSS symbol, or any link that says "RSS." In some cases, the symbol or link will take you to a page that lets you select from several different RSS feeds offered by the same Web site. For example, a news Web site may offer a different RSS feed for each of its departments, such as National news, World news, Local news, Sports, etc. Currently the Milken Family Foundation offers only one feed, but check this Web site often for news about other RSS feeds in the future.

Once you've subscribed to a site's feed, go back to your feed reader/aggregator and you will see news items from that site begin to appear. Typically these items will consist of a headline, some brief text, a link to a Web page, and sometimes an image.

If you maintain a blog, you can embed RSS feeds within your blog, so that people reading your blog entries can also see information from other sites at the same time. In addition, most blogs offer readers the option of subscribing to an RSS feed of the blog entries.
