Richard Ruan (MS '18) is the valedictorian of West High School in Torrance. He is a Regents Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction, National Merit Commended Student, and a member of the California Scholarship Federation. Richard was president of the Math Club and Science Olympiad, founded his school’s chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, the national math honor society, was awarded the President's Volunteer Service Gold Award, and has researched the development of kidney vascular networks in mouse embryos at USC Stem Cell. He has taught a community origami class in Torrance since eighth grade. Richard will study bioengineering at UC Berkeley.
