Amanda Raupe (OK '16) | First-grade teacher, Hilldale Elementary School | Oklahoma City, OK
Date of Award: January 10, 2017
Amanda Raupe, the grade-level team leader and a school leadership team member at Hilldale, is considered a vital contributor to the recent gains in student achievement at Hilldale, a high-poverty school where more than half of the students are English learners. At Amanda's surprise Award notification, her adorable and enthusiastic first-graders swarmed her for a congratulatory group hug. In addition to a slew of dignitaries, another very special guest showed up: Pistol Pete, the mascot of Oklahoma State University, Amanda's alma mater. After the assembly Amanda phoned her husband, also a teacher, to share the good news.
The Award has had a big impact on the Hilldale community. "Since the Award, students at my school have been much more vocal about their appreciation of teachers," says Amanda. "I've also had several students tell me that they want to be a teacher, just like me, when they grow up. It brings tears to my eyes every single time."
