Milken Family Foundation Receives Excellence in Education Award

From Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, at Centennial Conference

November 10, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education (KDP), continued its deep legacy of honoring the achievements of educators and promoting excellence in education with the establishment of the International Excellence in Education Award to commemorate KDP’s Centennial.

The Milken Family Foundation (MFF) was the inaugural recipient—recognized for its three decades of dedication to strengthening American K–12 education and support to classroom teachers. Presenting the award, Dr. Nathan Bond, Society President, noted that “the Foundation was being acknowledged for its sustained commitment to honoring and supporting our nation’s educators.”

Dr. Jane Foley, Senior Vice President of Milken Awards and Director of the Milken Scholars Program, accepted the award at the KDP 48th Biennial Convocation’s closing banquet that culminated the Society’s 100-year anniversary celebration. Dr. Foley challenged educators “to prepare their students for a successful future in whatever and wherever they choose to go. The possibilities are endless. For tomorrow and beyond, the Foundation, Kappa Delta Pi, and everyone here represent the best in education and, together, it is our privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to advance excellence.”

More than 1,200 national and international educators were in Indianapolis, Indiana to participate in the three-day best practice symposium Crossroads of Excellence, which featured keynote presentations, 200 workshops, and a panel of distinguished Laureates. Founded in 1911, today KDP advances the professional growth and teaching practices of 20,000 preservice educators in partnership with 635 teacher education programs as well as 25,000 practitioners—eventually impacting the academic success of more than 1.5 million students per year.
